Itch reviews: ELF Mineral 4 piece Bamboo Brush Set

Hey there and peace be upon us.

First of all Happy Chinese New Year to all celebrating (and in Malaysia I think that usually means everyone :) )

I'm back at my hometown for the holidays. Most of my family is here. We have started preparing for my brothers' wedding in March. This year is a busy year for my family, 2+1 weddings and one engagement. Phew! If all goes well, there will only be one more wedding left and that's for my youngest brother.

Ok enough with my life's update. Today, I'm squeezing in a review on the ELF Mineral 4 Piece Small Brush Set.

First of all, I really didn't realize that the set is a mini (small) set. It didn't state so in the website. I wonder why did ELF leave out such an important information. Not good.

Here's the info from the website:
"This antibacterial Taklon bristled brush is 100% cruelty free, luxuriously soft and can be used with wet or dry products and is ideal for e.l.f. Natural Mineral Makeup. The natural and sustainable bamboo handle fits ergonomically in your hand for comfort and precise application. The recycled Ferrule is eco-friendly for guilt free beauty. Because beautifying yourself and the world is a beautiful thing!"

The set comprises of a complexion brush, concealer brush, blending eye brush and a mini kabuki brush. It comes in a hemp travel bag where everything fits snugly in.

Let's start with the Complexion Brush. To me the brush is too soft for my liking. It makes powder application resulted in being too sheer. Plus it doesn't pick up colour that well. I found myself having to apply products repeatedly in order to get the same result as I have using other conventional brushes. So I usually use this with my bronzers and contouring powder when I only want a sheer wash. I get a little bit impatient applying blushers with this :(

Compared with Essence of Beauty Concealer Brush
Next is the Concealer brush. I was so excited when the set includes a concealer brush because I realized that I only have one (Essence of Beauty dual ended, which I adore!). I was hoping that this will be as good as the EOB but it turned out to be too stiff! This makes blending cream products difficult. I rarely use this for concealers. I use this to apply cream eyeshadows.

Compared with ELF Essentials Blending eye brush
Blending eye brush. As like the complexion brush, this doesn't pick up colour well. And again being too soft makes blending a bit hard. I use it to deposit a base colour for my crease and that's about it.

Lastly is the Mini Kabuki brush, yup again the same problems apply. Plus it's not as dense as I would like it too be. I tried this with my Maybelline mineral foundation. Hateful! For finer powders this could work but still application is a bit messy.

Yeah, I guess you guys can definitely see that I don't dig the set. Which is a total lost since  it set me back USD 10.00 :( I don't know if the normal size ones are also made like it's mini versions. If they do, then definitely not buying.

Here's the final verdict.

PROS:
Urmmm...they are cute??

CONS:
Ok..let's just put it this way...what's the point of having a set of travel size brushes when you can't multitask them (heck they can't even do what they are meant for)? They would end up..dare I say it..USELESS!

Cruel huh, I do think so too, so please help me.  I can see myself selling these off as pre-loved (but then again after this review maybe no one wants to buy them). I don't own other mineral make up (except for that ol' Maybelline foundation) to test this with. Are they really better for MMU? Do I now have to buy MMU just to use these? Do you guys have any suggestions or views about the set? Appreciate it.

Lastly don't forget to have a colourful day ahead gals!

That is weird that they didn't say they were so small... hmm.
